Was sorry to hear about his sister and that’s a pain that is unimaginable to me. As for anything basketball related, I can’t say I feel that bad for him. He opted against surgery originally which was a bad decision. Not something you gamble on. Either way, he’s made more than enough money in his career to live a good life so let’s hope he’s been financially responsible because he’s never going to get the contract he wanted

Money aside, the dude was proving naysayers wrong and demonstrating that he is that good.
Just because you might have a financially secure future doesn't mean you aren't going to be brutally disappointed because your body can't deal with the stress you put it under (for the first time in his life). Psychologically speaking, that can be a significant source of personal/mental stress or outright depression.
Personally speaking, it's hard for me to not feel bad for the guy.
But that could also have to do with the fact that two years ago I learned I have to change my life quite a bit because I have the busted lower back of someone much older than I. It ain't easy to deal with that sort of news. At least my career isn't directly affected.
It's not always about the money.

Most players blow their first contract and save their second. It netted around 10mil and easily could have blown half of that by now. 5 Mil for rest of your life at 30 is not that special.

VERY few people have 5mil in the bank at age 30. Maybe not great for an NBA player, but for a normal person, that’s amazing.
And while there are definitely examples of players blowing their contracts, I don’t think you know enough to say “most players blow their first contracts and save their second”

5 mil is roughly equivalent to a salary of 150k/year for 30 years. More than enough to retire on for anyone

I'm going to be the guy. Even if he has a great season on a 1 year. Nobody is giving a 31 year old 5'8 PG a huge deal. Especially when he's practically useless defensively

I don't understand why he didn't just get surgery from the beginning. I had the same injury in each of my hips and was told that it won't actually heal on its own without surgery

30 year old 5'8" scoring PG that relies on quickness. He should take whatever long term contract he can get. Even if he has a semi-decent season on a 1 year. Nobody is going to be locking him up lock term for big money. Time is against him
